Lesson from Captain Moroni: Fortify your life

Alma 50: 1-6

Discuss how the Nephites are fighting against the Lamanites throughout the whole land. Captain Moroni is leading the Nephites. He prepares them both spiritually and physically to avoid the attacks of the Lamanites.

Use a whiteboard (or something similar) and have each person take turns illustrating the preparations that Moroni orders throughout the land.

vs 1: They dig up heaps of earth around all the cities.
vs 2: On top of the earth, they build timbers as tall as a man.
vs 3: On top of the timbers, they build pickets (a pointed stake).
vs 4: They build towers higher than the pickets with safe places on the towers where arrows couldn't reach.
vs 5: They were prepared to attack any enemy who came near the city.
vs 6: The people were prepared.

Discuss how Moroni did not wait for enemy attacks, he knew they would come and he prepared for them. What kind of attacks do we know are coming in our life? (Answers could be: bad language, pornography, cheating, lying etc.)

Use the drawing created to label ways to protect yourself against the attacks of Satan.
Your family should be the city inside the protection. They take turns naming ways you can fortify your life. Label the earth as prayer, the timbers as scripture study, etc.

Discuss how much harder it will be for Satan to get to your family when you have protection. You will not wait for his attacks. You will be prepared.
