Doing Impossible Things

The Lord Makes A Way
1 Nephi 17:1-3

You will need:
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Pepper
Plate
Balloon

Mix salt and pepper together on the plate.

Ask: I need you to take all the pepper out of the salt.
Do you think we can do it? Is it possible? How long do you think it will take?

Read: 1 Nephi 17:1
Ask: How do you think the people of Lehi felt? Was their situation easy?

Give the balloon (blown up) to a child and have them hold it over the top of the plate.
Ask: Is it doing anything? Is it helping?

Now have the child rub the balloon on his head (enough to cause static) then hold the balloon over the plate again.
Ask: Is it doing anything now? Why did you need to rub the balloon first?

Read: verse 2
Ask: What were the blessings that Nephi lists?
The people of Lehi didn't just wait around for the Lord to make their hard task easy. They worked. Just like the balloon, they had to do something first, then they saw their rewards. Their task became easier.

Ask: What does the Lord require of us so that he can help us?
Read: verse 3
Answer: We need to keep the commandments.

Discuss: Does the Lord promise that through obedience our lives will be easy? No, but he promises he will be there with us and help us to accomplish the things that look impossible.
