Living Water

The Living Water
1 Nephi 11:25 & John 4:14

You will need:
a dry sponge (you could use a new one, but a used one that is hard and dry would be best) in a bowl or on a plate
a cup of water

Have the children touch the dry sponge and describe it.
(Encourage words like dry, hard, brittle, crunchy.)
Poor the water over the sponge and give the water time to sink in.
Have the children touch the wet sponge and describe how it has changed.
(They should notice that the sponge is now wet and soft. It is now malleable and useful.)

Christ talks about living water throughout the scriptures. What does he mean by living water?

Read: 1 Nephi 11:25
This scripture is describing the tree of life in Lehi's dream. In this scripture, what is near the tree?
(a fountain of living water)
What does the water and the tree represent?
(the love of God)
Why do you think the fountain of living water is near the tree of life?

Christ talked of living waters when he was on the earth.
Read: John 4:14
We know from the verse in 1 Nephi that the living water represents the love of God.
What does the living water give us, according to John 4:14.
(It will give us everlasting life.)

Do you want to be like the dry sponge or the wet sponge? How can you drink from the living waters that Christ offers?
